Christmas in the Park

The City held the 29th annual Christmas in the Park last weekend at Westlake Park. Throughout the three-day event, over 15,000 guests enjoyed a yule log with s'mores, kids activity area, pictures with Santa and more. Despite a short disruption by some unruly teenagers late on the last day of the event, the event was an overall success.  City staff will make the appropriate adjustments in its planning for the 30th anniversary of Christmas in the Park next year.

The State Comptroller’s Office reported a two percent decline in December sales tax revenue for the City of Mesquite. December’s report is based on sales reported by local businesses during the month of October. The decline in monthly sales tax was no surprise as the City’s revenue forecast projects a total decrease in sales tax of 1.5 percent for the coming year. Last year, the City collected a record high of $30.9 million in sales tax, which represents 30 percent of the City’s total annual revenue.
