CARES assistance for Mesquite residents impacted by COVID-19 The City of Mesquite still has funds available to aid its residents who have been financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The funds can be used to pay rent, mortgage and utilities (electric, gas, internet). Residents can receive as much as $1,500 per month for six months, depending on eligibility. The City’s assistance program is a part of the Recovery Mesquite campaign and is funded through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. Learn more.

Mesquite announces Curt Cassidy as new Director of Public Works
Curt Cassidy has been named the City of Mesquite’s new Director of Public Works effective Oct. 31, replacing Matt Holzapfel who announced his retirement. Cassidy began his career with the City in 2017 as Assistant City Engineer. He was promoted to Assistant Director – Engineering Services in 2019. Learn more.

Mesquite names water pump station after public works employee The City of Mesquite has named a planned $12 million water pump station in honor of 37-year City employee Matt Holzapfel, who is retiring at the end of October. Holzapfel is the Director of Public Works and started his career with the City in 1983 as an engineering assistant. The Matt Holzapfel water station will provide 10 million gallons of potable water per day by 2022. Learn more.

Mesquite Police Department hosts Drug Take-Back Day on Oct. 24 The Mesquite Police Department is proud to take part in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. On Saturday, Oct. 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Mesquite residents can bring any unwanted prescription drugs they wish to discard to the Mesquite Police Department, 777 N. Pumkinpalooza scavenger hunt
To celebrate fall, the Mesquite Parks and Recreation Department has teamed up with local businesses to launch a citywide scavenger hunt called “Pumpkinpalooza.” Follow clues and search for pumpkin displays at partner businesses. City Council supports Hispanic Forum of Mesquite Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Hispanic Forum of Mesquite Board has cancelled their 2020 Noche de Suenos Scholarship Gala. The event is the largest fundraiser for their scholarship program.
