Mesquite announces Russell Wilson as new Fire Chief Russell “Rusty” Wilson will become the new Mesquite Fire Chief on Nov.1 and will oversee 206 firefighters and seven stations for a fire department that responded to nearly 19,000 calls for service in 2019. Residential recycling resumes Oct. 19 and City hosts Mesquite Recycles Day Nov. 14 The City of Mesquite announced it will resume its curbside recycling program on Oct. 19. The residential recycling program has been suspended since late March due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic stay at home orders. The City also announced Mesquite Recycles Day will return on Nov. 14 at Poteet High School, 3300 Poteet Drive, from 8 a.m. - noon. Learn more.

Pumkinpalooza scavenger hunt
To celebrate fall, the Mesquite Parks and Recreation Department has teamed up with local businesses to launch a citywide scavenger hunt called “Pumpkinpalooza.” Follow clues and search for pumpkin displays at partner businesses. Monthly sales tax report The City of Mesquite’s October sales tax receipts, which represent sales activity for the month of August, is 3.0% above the amount reported for the same period last year. Total fiscal year sales tax collections for the City are almost 1% above last year’s collections. Sales tax contributes 25% of the total revenue used to support the City’s General Fund, which supports services such as police, fire, parks and recreation, libraries and public works. Learn more.
