City Council meets Sept. 8


Mesquite City Council will meet on Sept. 8, in Training Rooms A & B, at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Avenue. The Pre-Meeting begins at 5 p.m. followed by a staff Work Session at 6:30 p.m. and the Regular Meeting at 7 p.m. The meeting location will not be open to the public. The public may participate by telephone conference using the following toll-free dial-in number 888-475-4499 and using the meeting ID: 894 4246 2602 ##. Press *9 to raise your virtual hand and you will be recognized by the last four digits of your telephone number. Members of the public desiring to comment during the Citizens Forum via telephone conference must preregister as follows: Send an email or call the City Secretary on or before 3 p.m. on Sept.8 at sland@cityofmesquite.com or 972-216-6244. Provide the City Secretary with your name and address. If appearing at the meeting by telephone conference, also provide the phone number from which you will call. The meeting will be audible to all participants and allow for their two-way communication. City offices and facilities are closed for the Labor Day holiday Monday, Sept. 7. Trash and recycling will not be collected. Collection will resume on resident’s next scheduled collection day. View a complete list of closures.

Mesquite will host a live video broadcast of 9/11 Memorial


Instead of its annual public event, the City of Mesquite will host a live video broadcast of a private gathering for the 9/11 Memorial on its Facebook page www.facebook.com/cityofmesquitetx and make the video available on its website and other communication platforms. The sunrise memorial will commemorate "Patriot Day” which is the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Learn more.

Mesquite Animal Shelter has successful Clear the Shelters


The Mesquite Animal Shelter helped 82 dogs and cats find their forever home this week through the annual Clear the Shelters event eclipsing the 61 pet adoptions they achieved in 2019. The week-long program offered free pet adoptions which included sterilization, microchip, vaccination and deworming for each pet. Mesquite Animal Shelter’s current save rate is at 92% for all animals that enter the shelter. Learn more.

New video introduces Mesquite residents to their COVID-19 recovery caseworker


As a part of their ongoing Recovery Mesquite efforts, the
City of Mesquite announced Mesquite residents have
access to a Spanish bilingual caseworker to aid them in
submitting applications through Catholic Charities Dallas
(CCD) for COVID-19 economic assistance funds for

The City of Mesquite and Mesquite ISD want to remind everyone that Mesquite schools will open to students Sept. 14. Drivers are asked to pay attention, watch for children and stop for school buses. Mesquite announces final phase of brick sales for new Mesquite Veterans Memorial


The City of Mesquite announced the final phase of public brick sales for the new Mesquite Veterans Memorial currently under construction at 425 S. Galloway Avenue. A limited number of bricks are available to the public and the final phase sales will end Dec. 18. Bricks may be purchased by visiting www.MesquiteVeteransMemorial.org to order online or to download an order form. Learn more.

Mesquite Arts Center offers Tote-and-Go program


The Mesquite Arts Center is hosting virtual workshops for the community through their Tote-and-Go program. It's a contactless free service where residents can pick up supplies for art projects on a first-come, first serve basis. The next Tote-and-Go is Sept. 7, called Pizza Art. Early giving is now open for North Texas Giving Day. From now until Sept. 17 make a donation to a Mesquite non-profit, like the Mesquite Arts Council, Historic Mesquite, Inc. and the Mesquite Symphony Orchestra.

Mosquito Prevention: Remember the Four D’s


Prevention is the best defense against the West Nile virus. Mesquite residents are reminded to enjoy the outdoors and remember the four D’s: Dusk and dawn are the times of day you should try to stay indoors. Dress in long sleeves and pants when you’re outside. DEET is an ingredient to look for in your insect repellent. Drain standing water in your yard and neighborhood where mosquitoes can breed.
