The Mesquite City Council and the Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a Joint Meeting on Aug. 31, in Training Rooms A & B, at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Avenue to review and discuss the Solterra Planned Development Zoning. The meeting starts at 6 p.m. The meeting location will not be open to the public. Mesquite Animal Shelter offers free pet adoptions for Clear the Shelters As a part of the national Clear the Shelters campaign the Mesquite Animal Shelter is offering free pet adoptions. On Aug. 29 they will be open for Clear the Shelters from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. The shelter is located at 1650 Gross Road. Mesquite residents have access to COVID-19 recovery caseworker As a part of their ongoing Recovery Mesquite efforts, the City of Mesquite announced Mesquite residents have access to a Spanish bilingual caseworker to aid them in submitting applications through Catholic Charities Dallas (CCD) for COVID-19 economic assistance funds for rental or mortgage payments, utility bills and other related expenses. Mesquite Fire Department’s New Firefighter Health and Safety Program During the past two years, Mesquite has invested more than $400,000 in a focused cancer prevention initiative to improve the health and safety of its firefighters. A key component of this program was purchasing back-up bunker gear so that every firefighter has two sets for every 24-hour shift. And each of the City’s seven fire stations now has a specialized industrial laundry machine (extractor), uniquely engineered to remove the cancer-causing carcinogens from bunker gear. Learn more.

Mesquite will host a video broadcast 9/11 Memorial Instead of its annual public event, the City of Mesquite will host a live video broadcast of a private gathering for the 9/11 Memorial on its Facebook page www.facebook.com/cityofmesquitetx and make the video available on its website and other communication platforms. Mesquite announces final phase of brick sales for new Mesquite Veterans Memorial The City of Mesquite announced the final phase of public brick sales for the new Mesquite Veterans Memorial currently under construction at 425 S. Galloway Avenue. A limited number of bricks are available to the public and the final phase sales will end December 18, 2020. All bricks purchased during this final phase will be installed at the memorial by February 1, 2021. Mesquite Summer Challenge Series To celebrate summer, the Mesquite Parks and Recreation Department has been hosting a new, virtual challenge each week for residents. Next week’s challenge in the “Mesquite Summer Challenge Series” is called Noodling Around.
