The Mesquite City Council unanimously approved a Resolution on July 6, condemning racism and committing to community, inclusion and equality. Watch City Council approve the Resolution. The Resolution affirmed the City of Mesquite’s commitment to safeguarding the community against the damages that racism causes and to ensuring that the Constitutional rights of every person who lives, works and visits Mesquite are respected and protected. CARES Act

Mesquite begins funding assistance for businesses and residents impacted by COVID-19


As part of the Recovery Mesquite campaign, the City of Mesquite announced they will start providing funding assistance to its businesses and residents, impacted by COVID-19, through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act beginning on July 13. Each year, the City of Mesquite creates a budget to estimate revenues and expenditures and part of that process is to engage citizens for feedback. The City is holding a virtual Town Hall on July 14 beginning at 7 p.m. Learn more about how to participate.

Former Mayor John Monaco passes away


John Monaco served on the City Council from 2001 - 2015, and as Mayor from November 2007 - May 2015. During Monaco’s tenure, Mesquite launched many community programs that are still making a significant impact today. He was a resident of Mesquite for more than 40 years.The City extends is condolences to John Monaco’s family and friends, and will announce more details as they are made available. Read more.

Mesquite Veterans Memorial brick sale ends July 31


The City of Mesquite is selling bricks for the new Mesquite Veterans Memorial. All bricks will be placed on the border of the walkway that leads visitors to the memorial. Each brick is four inches by eight inches in size and costs $50. Purchase a brick online at www.MesquiteVeteransMemorial.org by July 31 to guarantee installation for the November dedication event.

Addressing Mesquite Day volunteer group applications due by July 31

Want to help a fellow Mesquite resident? The 16th Addressing Mesquite Day is on October 3. This annual event has volunteers work on minor exterior home repairs, painting and landscape projects for a fellow resident that needs extra help. The City of Mesquite is looking for volunteer groups to participate. Volunteer groups have until July 31. Apply online at www.cityofmesquite.com/AMD. Mesquite's Finance Department employees donate to local food pantries


The City of Mesquite’s Finance Department employees donated non-perishable foods and money to help Mesquite Social Services and Sharing Life Community Outreach in Mesquite during the COVID-19 pandemic. For the past few years, the Finance Department has competed in the Spread the Love campaign, donating jars of peanut butter and jelly. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the department decided to donate all kinds of food for families in Mesquite and money. Read more.

July is Smart Irrigation Month and the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) is promoting efficient outdoor watering. The campaign highlights the need to repair broken sprinkler heads and pipes and utilize technology and tools to avoid water waste. Have you been cleaning and getting more done at home due to the coronavirus pandemic? Now is the perfect time to dispose items like aerosol sprays, batteries, cleaners and many other household items. Mesquite is part of the Dallas County Household Hazardous Waste Network. Residents can drop off home chemicals at the Home Chemical Collection Center, 11234 Plano Road at no charge.
