Walmart offers COVID-19 testing site in Mesquite A COVID-19 drive-thru testing opened this week at the drive-thru pharmacy window of the Walmart Neighborhood Market located 915 N. Town East Blvd. The site will be open Tuesdays and Thursdays weekly from 8 to 9 a.m. Testing is for adults, 18 years and older. Appointments are required. City extends local state of disaster for public health emergency At the June 15 Council meeting, the City Council voted to extend a Declaration of Local Disaster for the Public Health Emergency issued by Mayor Bruce Archer on March 23. The declaration will be a tool the city uses to direct its residents to comply with orders from the State of Texas and Dallas County, and to request federal reimbursement for expenses related to the coronavirus pandemic. Addressing Mesquite Day volunteer group applications due by end of July Want to help a fellow Mesquite resident? The 16th Addressing Mesquite Day is on October 3. This annual event has volunteers work on minor exterior home repairs, painting and landscape projects for a fellow resident that needs extra help. Mesquite Veterans Memorial brick sale The City of Mesquite is selling bricks for the new Mesquite Veterans Memorial. All bricks will be placed on the border of the walkway that leads visitors to the memorial. Each brick is four inches by eight inches in size and costs $50. Monthly sales tax report The City of Mesquite’s June sales tax receipts, which represent sales activity for the month of April, is 21.9% below the amount reported for the same period last year. Total fiscal year sales tax collections for the City are .6% below last year’s collections. Sales tax contributes 25% of the total revenue used to support the City’s General Fund, which supports services such as police, fire, parks and recreation, libraries and public works. Learn more.
