City Council meets May 18


Mesquite City Council will meet on May 18, at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Avenue. The Pre-Meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. in Training Rooms A and B, followed by the Regular Meeting at 7 p.m. In order to advance the public health and support social distancing in response to the coronavirus pandemic, access to the rooms will be limited to the City Council, designated City staff, individuals with official business on the agenda and the public requesting to speak. Members of the public requesting to comment during Citizens Forum must preregister. Contact the City Secretary’s Office no later than 3 p.m., May 18 at sland@cityofmesquite.com or 972-216-6244. Mesquite Public Library System announces new Library To Go program


The Mesquite Public Library System has launched its new program called “Library To Go” to make library books, videos and audiobooks accessible to the public during the COVID-19 pandemic. The new curbside service is available to library cardholders. They can reserve materials at www.cityofmesquite.com/LibraryOnlineCatalog and pick them up within 48 hours at the Main Library, 300 W. Grubb Drive, Monday - Thursday from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. and Friday - Saturday from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. Mesquite residents who do not currently have a library card can contact the library at 972-216-6220. Project ChildSafe free gun locks

Mesquite Police Department offers free gun locks


The Mesquite Police Department has joined Project ChildSafe, a nationwide educational program that promotes the safe storage of firearms in the home. The program raises awareness about firearms safety by distributing gun locks and educational materials to gun owners. Project ChildSafe has provided MPD with free gun locks to distribute to the community. Watch the video to learn more.

The community will help homeowners on Addressing Mesquite Day


Do you or your neighbors need help with an exterior house or yard project? The 16th Addressing Mesquite Day is on October 3. This annual event has volunteers organized by the City work on minor exterior home repairs, painting and landscape projects, needed by senior citizens, single parents, military veterans and the disabled and other homeowners in Mesquite. The City of Mesquite is celebrating the fifth anniversary of a Marshals program at its Municipal Court. On April 30, 2015 the program was launched to handle all the law enforcement duties associated with the Court and provide enhanced security for those entering the building. Learn more.

Monthly sales tax report


City of Mesquite’s May sales tax receipts, which represent sales activity for the month of March, is 14.6 % below the amount reported for the same period last year. Total fiscal year sales tax collections for the City are 2.8% above last year’s collections. Sales tax contributes 25% of the total revenue used to support the City’s General Fund, which supports services such as police, fire, parks and recreation, libraries and public works. Learn more.

IH 635 LBJ East Traffic Alert


The Texas Department of Transportation has started construction on IH 635 LBJ East. The HOV/Express Managed Toll Lanes between US 75 and IH 30 are closed through the end of the 635 East Project in late 2024. Stay up to date on the closures and traffic pattern changes during this ongoing project, by visiting 635east.com.
