City Council meets April 20


Mesquite City Council will meet on April 20. The meeting will be held through videoconference and by conference call, in order to adhere to the Dallas County orders of social distancing in response to the coronavirus pandemic. The Pre-Meeting begins at 4:30 p.m. followed by the Regular Meeting at 7 p.m. Members of the public interested in speaking during the meeting are advised to remotely access the meeting by dialing either one of the following toll-free numbers: 877-853-5257 or 888-475-4499. The meeting ID number is 370 735 482 ##. Or members of the public can use a computer or smart device to videoconference into the meeting using the Zoom link: https://zoom.us/j/370735482. Members of the public may submit written comments prior to the meeting by email to Sonja Land, City Secretary at sland@cityofmesquite.com before 3 p.m., April 20. View meeting agendas online. Roadmap to Resources helps job seekers and local businesses


The City of Mesquite has put together a list of helpful resources for local businesses and job seekers during the coronavirus pandemic. The Roadmap to Resources website, www.roadmaptoresources.com,  includes information on financing programs and grants available for small businesses, e-commerce tips, links to unemployment assistance programs and more.

Eastfield College donates gloves

Eastfield College donates gloves to Dallas Regional Medical Center


Eastfield College is stepping up to help the community medical supplies during COVID-19. They recently donated 1,500 pairs of gloves to Dallas Regional Medical Center located in Mesquite. Watch the video. If anyone would like to donate items to DRMC during this time, to contact their administration office at 214-320-7162.

Mesquite Police and Fire Department receive community donations


The Mesquite community has been very supportive of the City’s public safety departments during the COVID-19 event. For example, ServPro of Mesquite donated resources to clean police vehicles. Watch the video. And, many groups have donated face masks to firefighters. Watch the video.

Mesquite supports social distancing efforts


As the COVID-19 event continues to evolve, the City of Mesquite is educating and enforcing the social distancing orders by Dallas County. City parks and trails are open for exercise, not social gatherings. If you see businesses or restaurants not complying using social distancing practices, please bring it to the attention of ownership/management or call the Mesquite Police Department at 911.

Products brought into the home


If you are concerned about contamination of food or food packaging because of the coronavirus pandemic, here are a few tips. After you get home from the store, make sure to wash your hands and remove the food from the packaging. Wash your hands before you prepare food and before you eat. Make sure you also frequently clean and disinfect surfaces in your home. For the most recent updates on the city’s local response to the coronavirus, visit www.cityofmesquite.com/Coronavirus.

Beasley Park Construction


Atmos Energy is upgrading a natural gas pipeline that passes through Beasley Park. The construction work is happening near Green Canyon Drive and Via Del Norte. Spread the Love

Spread the Love Campaign kicks off


In honor of National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day, the Mesquite AMBUCS club made a $1,000 donation to Mesquite’s annual Spread the Love food drive. The program provides aid to children in Mesquite who typically are on free or reduced meal programs during the school year. Financial sponsorships can be sent to Spread the Love, c/o Communications and Marketing Department, City of Mesquite, 1515 N. Galloway Avenue, Mesquite, TX 75149. All donations are shared equally with Mesquite Social Services and Sharing Life Community Outreach. Watch the AMBUCS donation presentation.

April sales tax report

Monthly sales tax report


City of Mesquite’s April sales tax receipts, which represent sales activity for the month of February, is .5% below the amount reported for the same period last year. Total fiscal year sales tax collections for the City are 7.1% above last year’s collections. Sales tax contributes 25% of the total revenue used to support the City’s General Fund, which supports services such as police, fire, parks and recreation, libraries and public works. Learn more.
