PUC rules in favor of Mesquite’s petition to review NTMWD water rates


The Public Utilities Commission of Texas (PUC) ruled in favor of Mesquite’s petition for a review of water rates charged by the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD).  This is the result of nearly four years of efforts by city staff and our City Council to address the increasing rates paid by Mesquite water customers. Mesquite City Council meets March 2, at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Ave. The Pre-Meeting begins at 4:30 p.m. in Training Rooms A and B, followed by the Regular Meeting at 7 p.m. in the Council Chamber. View meeting agendas online. Mesquite recognizes four employees as Real. Texas. Service. Champions


On Feb. 17, Mesquite honored four City employees with Real. Texas. Service. Employee Champion awards during the City Council meeting. The program celebrates employees who provide exemplary customer service and achieve accomplishments that merit special recognition. The following employees were recognized: Employee Service Coordinator Kerry Graham, Electrical/Energy Inspector Michael Wallander, Police Sergeant J.W. Annual change in water disinfectant scheduled from March 2 to March 30 


The North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) will temporarily change the disinfectant in its water treatment process from March 2 through March 30. The annual, routine change is necessary to maintain the regional system and year-round water quality. Learn more.

Sprouts Farmers Market Opens on March 4


Sprouts Farmers Market will open in Mesquite on Wednesday, March 4. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held before doors open at 7 a.m. To celebrate the new store, located at 1220 North Town East Boulevard, the first 200 shoppers will receive 20 percent off their initial total purchase. Learn more.

2020 Mother Son Dance


Enjoy a special night at the 2020 Mother Son Dance on Saturday, March 7. Tickets are $15 per person, per session. The first session is from 4 to 6 p.m. The second session is 7 to 9 p.m. Tickets are limited and will not be sold at the event. The dance will be held at the Mesquite Convention Center, 1700 Rodeo Drive. Read more about the event. 

Public Input Meeting

City requests citizen input on HUD grant


The City of Mesquite will have four public meetings to receive input from citizens on how to spend the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) grant funds during the next five years (FY2020-2024). The first meeting is scheduled for March 10 at the Mesquite Main Library, 300 W. Grubb Drive from 12 to 1 p.m. Learn more.

Census 2020 to begin in March

That is the theme of Mesquite’s education effort to get participation in Census 2020 Data from Census 2020 will determine how much federal funding Mesquite will receive for programs like schools, healthcare, housing and more.
