Mesquite, TX - December 13, 2017 - Mesquite Animal Services has received several calls recently regarding damage to property from feral hogs. While Mesquite Animal Services does not provide trapping and removal service for feral hogs, we recommend the following abatement measures if you are encountering these issues.
Install exclusionary fencing such as iron or wood. If fencing is not an option, then there are several scare devices such as motion activated noise makers, lights or even sprinklers that can be purchased and deployed.
Secondly, remove food sources. Often feral hogs will damage property when there is a bloom of grubs in the lawn. In these cases, an insecticide can be applied to the yard to kill the grubs. This should be done twice over a six month period to remove as many as possible. As the grubs tend to bloom in damp conditions, It is recommended that the yards not be watered more than twice a week.
