Mesquite, TX – September 6, 2017 – The City of Mesquite and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will share in the funding of a program, which promotes highway safety by hiring off-duty police officers to enforce speed limits on highways.
The Mesquite City Council passed a resolution accepting a $38,144 Speed Safety Grant for the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) during the City Council meeting held on September 5. The resolution also approved the contribution of City funds to the program and authorized the City Manager to execute the agreement. The single-year grant covers the majority of the program’s cost for fiscal year 2017-2018. City funds in the amount of $12,714 will supplement TxDOT’s contribution.
The STEP program is one of many City initiatives to help improve traffic safety. Visit www.DriveLikeYourFamilyLivesHere.com to learn more.
