Mesquite, TX – June 12, 2020 – The City of Mesquite has received a positive West Nile-Virus report from Dallas County Mosquito Lab. Spraying will start tonight at 10 p.m. in the area along IH 635, Hickory Tree Road, Lake June Road and along W. Bruton Road to Peachtree Road across to Potter Lane to Rodeo Center Blvd then down to New Market Road. Attached is the map of the spray area.
Two sprays of the area should be completed by Monday night, weather permitting. Spraying begins after 10 p.m. and ends no later than 5:30 a.m.
This is the same spray area as last week. Next week, the City plans to increase efforts in this area by looking standing water and treating storm drains in an effort to attack mosquitos.
Prevention is the best defense against the West Nile virus. Mesquite residents are reminded to enjoy the outdoors, and remember the four D’s:
- Dusk and dawn are the times of day you should try to stay indoors. This is when infected mosquitoes are most active.
- Dress in long sleeves and pants when you’re outside. For extra protection, you may want to spray thin clothing with repellent.
- DEET is an ingredient to look for in your insect repellent. Follow label instructions, and always wear repellent when outdoors.
- Drain standing water in your yard and neighborhood where mosquitoes can breed. This includes old tires, flowerpots, clogged rain gutters, etc. Mosquitoes may develop in any water stagnant for more than three or four days.
