Mesquite, TX – June 12, 2020 – To celebrate summer, the Mesquite Parks and Recreation Department has launched a social media contest called “The Mesquite Summer Challenge Series.” Everyone can participate in the fun and entertaining challenges from home. Just take a video of you and/or your friends doing the challenge to enter the competition. Winners will be announced every week! For more information visit www.CityofMesquite.com/MesquiteSummerChallenge or call the Parks and Recreation Department at 972-216-6260.
During the first week of competition, contestants participated in the Big Chill Challenge, where they froze a wet t-shirt overnight and then timed themselves to see how quickly they could put it on the next day. Lauren Burton is the winner of the first challenge! Next week, participants can take part in the Stack Attack Challenge. Visit the City’s Facebook page @cityofmesquitetx on Monday for instructions on how to compete for next week’s prize, sponsored by the Mesquite Championship Rodeo.
The social media competition will run through September 4. Each week on Monday, a video will be posted on the City’s Facebook page @cityofmesquitetx introducing that week’s challenge. Free pre-packaged supplies will be available through a Rec-To-Go drive-through station every Monday from 6 - 7 p.m. at Florence Recreation Center, 2501 Whitson Way. The bags of supplies will be available to the first 150 people.
Competitors will be required to video themselves performing the challenge and post their video to that week’s challenge event on the City’s Facebook page. Entries are due by 3 p.m. each Thursday. All entries will be eligible to win a prize provided by the weekly sponsor. Winners will be announced each Friday on the City’s Facebook page.
