The safety of our citizens and community is the top priority of the City of Mesquite. The City is aware of the reported threat of the new coronavirus (COVID-19). The City Council, City Management and First Responders are maintaining constant communications with county, state, and national health care organizations. As of MARCH 3, 2020, we have no knowledge of any type of direct threat to the Mesquite community.
The City maintains a continuity of operations (COOP) plan to help us maintain our capability to continue service to the public should an incident occur that may impact our organization. It is being administered by our Office of Emergency Management to ensure prudent and professional decisions are made, and that effective and efficient actions will follow.
Residents are reminded to take the following precautions to help avoid this respiratory virus, which is very much like the flu or the common cold.
- Wash your hands with soap and water. If soap and water are not available, an alcohol-based hand sanitizer may be used.
- Cover your cough and sneeze.
- Stay at home if you are sick.
- Clean and disinfect high-use areas with household cleaning products.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
- Avoid contact with people who are sick.
The City will provide updates on any local impacts of the coronavirus (COVID-19) as new information is made available. However, here are some additional resources the public may wish to use to remain informed on the coronavirus (COVID-19):
