Mesquite, TX – February 18, 2020 – The Mesquite Police Department (MPD) can take the crime scene back to the office with them, thanks to a 3D mapping system called FARO. The measurement technology maps the scene of a crime and creates a 3D version.
MPD Officer Alexander Fraire says, “This program and this device allows us to create and render a 3D model so that we can walk through it even though we have already released the scene. It allows investigators to go back and see things they might have originally missed. Or just reexamine specific types of evidence and take more measurements if need be.”
MPD has been using the technology for the past two years for major incidents like officer involved shootings and crashes. It allows them to take more accurate measurements of a crime scene which they can use as evidence to show juries, along with traditional photographs.
Officer Fraire added, “In a growing world, where tech is just king around here, it’s important that the Mesquite police department is investing in such technology to allow our investigations to be more thorough.”
