Mesquite, TX – January 28, 2020 – The Mesquite Heart Board is selling red T-shirts to raise funds to help make Mesquite a healthier city. On Jan. 30 and Feb. 6 they will be selling Mesquite Heart shirts at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Avenue and at the Mesquite Municipal Center, 1515 N. The Mesquite Heart Board works to educate residents about heart disease, the number one killer in the country. The funds raised from the T-shirt sales will go towards heart and stroke education, help provide Automated External Defibrillators (AED) to community neighborhoods and businesses, along with providing hands-only CPR classes throughout the community.
In 2019, Mesquite became a “Heart Safe Community” through the North Central Texas Trauma Regional Advisory Council (NCTTRAC). The Heart Safe Community designation is designed to recognize the efforts a community makes to its citizens in protecting them from the effects of heart disease and sudden cardiac death.
Many Americans are unaware that heart disease is the number one killer, taking more lives than all cancers combined. Through data collection from participating hospitals within the Metroplex and surrounding counties, the Mesquite Heart Board found that Mesquite’s two zip codes, 75149 and 75150 have the highest number of heart attacks within this reporting area.
