School Resource Officers

The purpose of the School Resource Officer Program is a partnership between the Mesquite Police Department and the Mesquite Independent School District to provide a safe learning environment for the thousands of middle and high school students in Mesquite.

Creating Positive Relationships

The program is also designed to create positive relationships between the students and officers. School resource officers (SRO) are more than just police officers; they are mentors, counselors, teachers and role-models for the students on their campuses.

Each SRO has an office in the school and is available to talk with students, parents and teachers concerning questions or problems.

The Mesquite Police Department has 22 SROs supervised by 2 sergeants. There is one SRO assigned to each Middle School and two SROs assigned to high school campuses, based on campus population
