Housing Choice Voucher Program
The Section 8 HCV program assists low income families with the cost of housing. Once the eligible family finds a rental unit and the landlord agrees to lease the unit to them, an inspection will be performed to assure it meets housing quality standards.
The requested rent must also pass a rent reasonableness test for determining if rent is comparable to other rents in the area or location. Once approved, the Housing Office will enter into a contract with the landlord for making monthly payments on behalf of the family’s rental obligations. This subsidy is the difference between our program’s applicable payment standard and 30% of the family’s monthly adjusted income.
The family may choose to rent a unit for more or less than the payment standard, but this choice does not change the amount of subsidy. Learn more about this program.
