The Arbor Day Foundation is a nonprofit organization whose mission statement expresses its dedication to replanting damaged trees in areas of our nation’s forests and to providing new trees to help bring healing and hope to communities after natural disasters. They also provided the framework necessary for communities to manage and expand their urban forests through their Tree City USA designation program.

In order to become a designated Tree City USA member a community must meet these four core standards of sound urban forestry management:

  • Maintain a tree board or department
  • Have a community tree ordinance
  • Spend at least $2 per capita on urban forestry and celebrate Arbor Day.

For the last 29 years, the City of Mesquite has met these standards and has proudly displayed this title in our community. For the 30th straight year, the City of Mesquite has been designated as Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation.

Mesquite has the 10th longest tenure in the program of any city in Texas.
