July Parks & Recreation Month - 2018


This July, Discover all Mesquite Parks and Recreation has to offer! Since 1985, Americans have celebrated July as the nation’s official Park and Recreation Month as designated by National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). 

Parks and Recreation play a vital part in our communities and foster mental well being, physical health and personal interactions. We encourage Mesquite residents the entire month of July to discover all the ways parks and recreation can improve their quality of life.

Low cost or free daily activities are planned all around Mesquite, come and discover all there is to do.

July Daily Activities

Sunday, July 1: All Day

Play a game of disc golf at one of three locations; Porter, Debusk and Paschall Park. Get a score card at www.CityofMesquite.com/DiscGolf

Monday, July 2: After 4 p.m.

Monday is Family Night at Mesquite Golf Club. Kids 16 and under PLAY FREE with a paid adult. Includes a free hot dog, chips and a drink. One child free per paid adult of equal or lesser value. Available for 18 or 9 hole rates.

Tuesday, July 3: 10 – 11:30 a.m.

Toddlers five years old and younger are invited to City Lake Aquatic Center’s zero depth entry pool for a special swim time with their parents.  
Fee is $4 per parent, toddlers are free.

Wednesday, July 4: All Day

Happy Fourth of July! Enjoy family and fun with a picnic in a Mesquite Park.

Thursday, July 5: 7:30 - 9:30 p.m.

Try Family Swim at City Lake Aquatic Center. Minors must be accompanied by an adult 18+.
Fee is $10 for a family of 4. Additional member will pay $2 for residents and $4 for non-residents.

Friday, July 6: 6 - 9:30 p.m. 

Dance to the live music of Southern Spur at the Adults 50+ Dance located at Evans Recreation Center. Free dance lessons start at 6 p.m. and the band begins at 7 p.m.
Fee is $6 per person

Saturday, July 7: All Day

Bring friends and play sand volleyball at Town East Park.

Sunday, July 8: All Day

Pack a family picnic and explore the newly renovated Florence Park. Play on the basketball courts or walk the trail.

Monday, July 9: 8 a.m. -12 p.m.

Children ages 7 and up can register to join the First Tee of Greater Dallas in a week long camp at the Mesquite Golf Club. For more information, visit www.thefirstteedallas.org
Fee is $150 per golfer, half and partial scholarships are available by request.

Tuesday, July 10: 7 – 8:30 p.m.

Stretch and tone your body in Authentic Hatha Yoga at Evans Recreation Center.
$5 drop-in or $30 monthly

Wednesday, July 11: All Day

Grab your bait and pole and go fishing at City Lake Park. 

Thursday, July 12: 10 – 11 a.m

Attend Chair Volleyball and have some fun learning a new style of low impact volleyball at Evans Recreation Center.

Friday, July 13: 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Celebrate Parks and Recreation Month with a Luau Pool Party at City Lake Aquatic Center.
FREE *Space is limited to first 500 guests

Saturday, July 14: 12-1 p.m.

Get a tutorial in basic archery from a certified instructor at the Introduction to Archery class at Westlake Sports Center.

Sunday, July 15:

Monday, July 16: 7 – 8 p.m.

Try Beasley’s Family Karate at Dunford Recreation Center.
First class is FREE for new members

Tuesday, July 17: 10 – 11:30 a.m.

Take a dip in the pool during adult only open swim time at City Lake Aquatic Center.
$1 per adult 50+

Wednesday, July 18: 6:30-8 p.m.

Try the Urban Soul Line Dancing class at Florence Recreation Center and learn the basic steps to today’s popular music for a fun and unique way to exercise.
$5 drop in rate, or $20 monthly

Thursday, July 19: All Day

Hit a bucket of balls at the Mesquite Golf Club. Driving range is open f
Range balls $6 – $12

Friday, July 20: All Day

Discover butterflies on the Paschall Park Butterfly Trail.

Saturday, July 21: 9-10 a.m.

Jump in Vanston pool for a low-impact, high-energy aquatic exercise class with Aqua Zumba.
$7 drop in or $25 monthly

Sunday, July 22: All Day

Bring your dog to the Leash Free Zone located within Town East Park.

Monday, July 23: 7-8 p.m.

Try the Women’s Basic Self Defense class at Florence Recreation Center.
$7 drop in or $28 monthly

Tuesday, July 24: 12 – 10 p.m.  

Bring a friend and play tennis at the Westlake Sports Center.
Outdoor Court fees $2 per 1.5 hour per person

Wednesday, July 25: After 5 p.m.

Wednesday is Ladies Night at the Mesquite Golf Club. Ladies can play nine holes after 5 p.m. and receive one small bucket of driving range balls and dine for FREE (deli sandwich or hot dog with chips and a drink).
$18 Each (greens fee and cart)

Thursday, July 26:

All Day

Try geocaching and discover hidden objects using a cellphone GPS. Visit

Friday, July 27: 7:30 - 9:30 p.m.

Experience Family Swim at Vanston Pool. Minors must be accompanied by an adult 18+.
The fee is $10 for a family of 4. Additional member will pay $2 for residents and $4 for non-residents.


Saturday, July 28:

9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Go to downtown historic Mesquite for the Mesquite Marketplace. Shop locally grown and produced food and goods in Heritage Square.

Sunday, July 29:

All Day

Take the kids to Debusk Park to play at the KidsQuest playground.

Monday, July 30: 6:30 -8:30 p.m.

 Youth ages 6 to 14 can register for a week long basketball skills camp. For more information and to register visit www.cityofmesquite.com/PARD

Tuesday, July 31: 5 p.m.

Enjoy dinner and Rocking and Rollin’ 50s and 60s music with Gary Freeman during the Adult 50+ After Hours Café at Evans Recreation Center.
