Construction Projects

We are hard at work improving Mesquite Metro Airport!
Phase 4

Airport Construction

Updated 11.26.2018

Due to the signification amount of rain we have experience this fall, the airport construction project has been delayed several weeks.  We now anticipate the runway remaining closed until around the middle of January 2019.  We are hoping to make up some of this lost time now that we are seeing dry weather.

Please be sure to keep up with this page as I will updated it on a regular basis going forward.

Update 10.2.2018

Phase 4 of our airport construction project will begin on October 8, 2018. This phase of the project will require us to close the runway for 60 days as we replace the runway edge lights, replace the runway signs and reconstruct the asphalt shoulders. While the runway is closed we will have a 2,960 foot long portion on the southern end of taxiway alpha available as a runway surface for VFR day operations only.

Phase 3 will also temporarily overlap with phase 4. Phase 3 is the current closure of taxiway alpha north of the terminal apron. Once we have all the edge lights installed we will open up this area for aircraft taxiing operations.

Phase 2 of our airport construction project will begin on August 17, 2018. For this phase of the project we will be closing taxiway alpha adjacent to the terminals main ramp going north bound. The following work will be completed during this phase:

- Replacing the asphalt shoulders on taxiway alpha

- Installing taxiway edge lights on taxiway alpha and taxiway connectors

- Re-grading the drainage channels west of taxiway alpha

This portion of the project is projected to take 45 calendar days to complete.  During this portion of the project aircraft will be able to access runway 18-36 via taxiways Delta, Echo, Foxtrot and Golf.

Road Closures Around The Airport

Scyene Road

Posted 11.26.2018

The Scyene road project has experience some major delays, but we are finally starting to see some movement again. The waterline installed by the contractor has finally passed inspections which is now allowing the crews to remove the old waterline and place the new power poles and lines. Once the movement of these utilities has been completed the paving crews will be able to come back in and finish paving up to the existing Airport Blvd.

I was told that we can anticipate the traffic route to the airport staying the same until around the beginning of February.

Posted 5.21.2018

Starting March 15, 2018, Scyene Road will be closed from Clay Mathis Road to Airport Blvd. This closure is expected to last six months as construction crews replace this stretch of Scyene Rd. In order to access the airport during this construction project, visitors will have to travel via Lawson Rd., turn west on Scyene Rd., then south on Airport Blvd.

Berry Road

Starting March 5, 2018, Berry Road will be closed from Faithon P. Lucas Sr Blvd. to Edwards Church Road. This closure is expected to last six months as construction crews upgrade draining channels crossing under Berry Rd. When needing to access the airport from this direction, visitors will have to travel south on Clay Mathis Rd. then turn north on Lawson Rd., turn west on Scyene Rd., then south on Airport Blvd.
