Texas Residents: Cards are available at no charge to all residents of the state of Texas. Application must be made in person at either the Main Library or the North Branch. Upon presentation of proof of residency with correct address (Texas Driver's License, Texas Department of Public Safety ID card, or some other form of picture ID or two other acceptable forms of identification) applications will be approved. A parental signature is required for children under the age of fourteen.
Borrowing Privileges: Borrowing privileges are limited to two items on a new application. With a library card you may borrow as many books as needed although the number of books on a specific subject, such as science experiments, may be limited temporarily during times of high demand.
Loan Periods: Most items may be borrowed for a three week period and renewed for an additional three weeks if no hold has been placed on the material. Renewals may be made in person, over the telephone, or online. In order to process telephone renewals, patrons must have their library card number and item titles. (Items that are overdue must be renewed in person.) Videos, DVDs, interlibrary loan items, and audio-visual equipment have different loan periods. You are financially responsible for all items checked out on your card. If your card is lost or stolen, or if you move, you must notify the library immediately. Call the Circulation Desk at 972-216-6227 (Main) or 972-681-0465 (Branch).
Fines and Fees: Late charges are $0.20 per day for most materials. The late charge for videos and DVDs is $1.00 per day. Fines are assessed on the days the Library is closed. Charges will also be made for damaged materials. If you owe the Library $5.00 or more, or have materials overdue, your borrowing privileges will be suspended. Once the materials have been returned and/or no fines are owed, your privileges will be reinstated. Fines accrue up to the cost of the material, however, an additional processing fee is charged for items not returned. |
