The Butterfly Trail Beautification Project was developed to create a beautiful and appealing outdoor space for education and recreation that enhances our citizen’s appreciation for nature and for our community. The Butterfly Trail is a joint partnership between Keep Mesquite Beautiful and the City of Mesquite. This project began as a means to impact and educate our citizens through the beautification of an existing trail system. The goal of the project is to educate residents about their impact on our natural environment and to increase community spirit through a visually appealing gathering location.
During the past decade and much like several other metroplex suburbs, Mesquite has experienced a shift in community demographics and attitudes. This shift has led the city to take a proactive approach to achieve long-term community revitalization through reinvestment and restoration throughout the city. The Trail Beautification Project began as a means to creatively invest in the community, encourage community pride and beautify the existing hike/bike trail system. This Butterfly Trail is the first in a series of anticipated trail projects that focus on beautification and education. The official grand opening of the trail system took place in the spring of 2008.
The Butterfly Trail Beautification Project consists of a section of a hiking and biking trail along the Paschall Park section of the Travis William’s Park Trail System. The trail section intersects a popular sporting areas and is within viewing and walking distance to a local elementary school. The featured attractions of the Butterfly Trail area include a large wildflower meadow sown with a native or naturalized wildflower seed mixture. The trail also includes ten education signs and two trailhead signs. The education signs from the Butterfly Trail included the following topics: Wildflowers, Butterflies, Hummingbirds, Insects, Recycling, Composting, Water Wise (Conservation), Native Trees, Native Plants, Native Animals.
The project is a collaborative partnership between Keep Mesquite Beautiful and the City of Mesquite. Many generous Donors have also offered their financial support:
