LBJ Construction Project

GENERAL PROJECT INFORMATION.

The Texas Department of Transportation has selected McCarthy Building Company, Inc. for award of a $46 million contract to construct Phase 2 of the Mesquite Section of the LBJ Project. McCarthy Building Company, Inc. has established their field offices along the eastbound IH 30 frontage road just west of N. Galloway Avenue. The project will start in January 2006 and is expected to take two years to complete. Major features of this project include:

  • Rebuilding and widening IH 635 bridge over Town East Boulevard to 12 lanes
  • Adding a south IH 635 to north IH 635 U-turn lane beneath the new bridge
  • Creating dual-left turn lanes at IH 635, lowering and realigning Town East Boulevard from Towne Crossing Boulevard to West Emporium Circle
  • Adding a new northbound entrance ramp from Towne Centre Drive to IH 635
  • Modifying the north and southbound Town East Boulevard entrance and exit ramps
  • Reconstructing main-lane pavement from Town East Boulevard to just north of US 80
  • Constructing a new southbound IH 635 frontage road from eastbound IH 30 to Town East Boulevard
  • Relocating underground natural gas, electric, water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer lines
  • Enhanced landscaping at the IH 635 overpass across Town East Boulevard
  • Constructing a new sound wall along the northbound IH 635 frontage road between US 80 and Towne Centre Drive

The project’s construction phasing and comprehensive detour plan allow all businesses in the project area to remain open during construction. The overall project area is indicated on the map. Dynamic message signs advising motorists of detours and delays will be placed along all freeways and additional detour signage will be placed along city streets leading to the project area.

Questions on the project may emailed directly to the City Engineer, Matt Holzapfel, at mholzapf@ci.mesquite.tx.us .
